The Bank of Japan announced plans to reconstruct its branch in Fukuoka. The work will cost approximately ¥8 billion and will start this October, with the aim of finishing the project by the end of 2021. The current building, which is the oldest of the 32 branches nationwide, was completed in 1951. The age of the structure and the tight office space were the reasons behind the decision to carry out the reconstruction. The new earthquake absorbent five-story building will have one basement floor and cover a total of about 9,200 square meters, increasing the floor span 130%. The building work will be carried out step by step so that the facility will remain functional and services will continue as normal. Source: Mainichi Shimbun, 9/23/2017
