Bird Flu Reported at Miyazaki Farm

On Wednesday, the Miyazaki Prefectural Government confirmed an outbreak of bird flu (avian influenza – H5) at a Miyzaki poultry farm. This is the ninth case of bird flu at a Japanese farm this winter. 168,400 birds, 61,700 raised at the farm and 106,700 in neighbouring farms are to be culled with the support from the Ground Self-Defense Force. To prevent the spread of flu, 140 farms within 10 kilometer radius are restricting the transfer of chickens and eggs. Disinfection points have been set at 9 locations within a 10 km radius of the farm to disinfect vehicles carrying poultry. Source: NHK, Jan. 25, 2017
