Birth Rate in Okinawa Still Highest in Nation

According to the Ministry of Health, Labor and Welfare, the total fertility rates across all Kyushu and Okinawa prefectures decreased in 2023, though each remains above the national average of 1.20. Okinawa’s rate is the highest at 1.60 despite a 0.1 point drop. Fukuoka Prefecture’s rate fell 0.07 points to 1.26, the lowest in the region.
