The Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport, and Tourism is expected to appropriate a budget to cover the cost of lengthening the runway at Kitakyushu Airport. The airport serves many international cargo flights, taking advantage of its twenty-four-hour operation. However, the current 2,500-meter runway has been an obstacle for accepting takeoffs and landings of heavier jets. Those aircraft are required to carry train cars or fly to European and American airports. Research for the extension will take place by the end of the fiscal year of 2020. Source: Mainichi 02/28/2020
