Bullying-Related Incidents Reach New High in Fukuoka

In Fukuoka Prefecture, incidents deemed as serious cases under the Bullying Prevention Measures Promotion Act have been increasing. Last year, the Fukuoka Prefectural Police reported handling 19 incidents related to bullying, the highest number since statistics began in 2002. The incidents primarily consisted of assault (5 cases), insult (4 cases), and non-consensual obscenity (3 cases), with additional cases involving injury and violations of the Child Pornography Prohibition Law. A total of 34 students were arrested or taken into custody in connection with these incidents. This rise in bullying-related incidents coincides with a national increase in reported bullying cases, prompting the government to revise its strategy, including stronger police collaboration. The Fukuoka Prefectural Police Department’s Juvenile Division emphasizes the importance of early detection and appropriate response to bullying incidents. Source: NHK
