Kurume, one of the foremost camellia growing regions in Japan, plans to build Camellia World, an exhibition center for camellias, including wild camellias from China and Vietnam. Camellia World will cultivate rare camellias from China and Vietnam, thereby allowing it to showcase about half of the world’s original species of the flower and making it one of the largest facilities of its kind in Japan. The facility will take advantage of the different blooming times of the various species to remain open year-round. Camellia World will grow over 100 camellias donated by local growers and the Japan Camellia Association in greenhouses.
