On November 24 Canada’s national rugby team defeated Hong Kong (Germany and Kenya too) to earn the last qualifying spot for Rugby World Cup 2019 in Japan. Even better, Canada’s first match will be in Fukuoka on Sep. 26 before moving onto Oita for a game against New Zealand. In Rugby World Cup 1991 Canada reached the quarter-finals only to lose to New Zealand. Will the Canucks get revenge against the All Blacks in Oita? Regardless, with two of Canada’s matches in Kyushu, Fukuoka Now’s publisher Nick Szasz (Canadian) recently announced plans for a large-scale event featuring Canadian food to take place before the game in Fukuoka next September. Details of the event will be posted on the Fukuoka Now website. Meanwhile, anyone interested in helping out or becoming a sponsor of the event is encouraged to contact Nick via the Fukuoka Now contact form.
