Cargo-passenger Trains and Buses Begin in Kyushu

Kyushu’s public transportation companies are testing integrated passenger and cargo transportation schemes to deal with corona-induced financial challenges. JR Kyushu recently announced it would start a trial for carrying parcels of Sagawa Express on its shinkansen passenger trains. The scheme is expected to help alleviate the shortage of truck drivers and also speed up delivery times. Also, Nishitetsu started a passenger-cargo mixed operation on its express buses to Fukuoka City. The buses carry local farm products and for sale to urban customers and eateries.
