According to a census conducted by the Ministry of Internal Affairs and Communications, six prefectures in Kyushu recorded decreases in their populations in 2018. Prefectures which saw an increase in population were Fukuoka and Okinawa, by 0.01% and 0.32% respectively compared to the year before. Okinawa was the only prefecture in Japan that experienced a natural increase. Meanwhile, Nagasaki Prefecture suffered the steepest drop, -0.99% compared to the year before.
