Across Japan “Respect for Aged Day” was celebrated on Sep. 15 and Fukuoka Prefecture announced statistics for citizens over 100 years old. The total of centenarians was 2,337, 147 more than last year.. The breakdown between male and female was very one-sided with only 257 men and 2,080 women (89% women!). The oldest person in Fukuoka Prefecture is Yaeno Ishibashi, 110 years old, born in 1902. She lives in Okawa City. 1,169 people turned 100 this year. Source: Asahi.com 9/18
