Fukuoka City was no exception to the national trend for declining land values in regional cities as reported on the 23rd. The value of both residential and commercial land in the city fell for the first time in three years. One reason cited for the latter decline is the sharp drop in demand for offices space in the city’s central districts. The Nishinippon Shimbun reports that many commercial enterprises are devising new techniques to reduce the rental fees on their office space. These include sharing offices with other enterprises, and fixed term leases.
