Chikugo River Reservoir Levels Hit Seasonal Record Low

Reservoir levels in the Chikugo River system fell to their lowest point on record for mid-January, prompting calls for water conservation. Officials from Fukuoka and Saga Prefectures met on January 15 to share information on drought countermeasures. Persistent low rainfall since September caused combined storage at three major dams to drop to 22.3 percent. In response, water intake restrictions were set to begin on January 16 for utilities drawing from the river. While authorities said there was no immediate impact on daily life, residents were urged to conserve water through routine measures such as turning off taps when not in use.
