Chuo-ku to Get Mobile H2 Filling Station

A mobile hydrogen filling station will be installed in Chuo-ku sometime within the fiscal year in preparation for the fuel cell vehicles (FCVs) slated to go on sale in 2015. Osaka-based gas giant Iwatani Corporation was awarded a subsidy from the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry to perform the installation. According to the Prefecture, this will be the first-ever mobile hydrogen filling station for general use in Japan. Mobile filling stations essentially consist of hydrogen tanks mounted on trucks, which make them good options for urban areas where open land is scarce. Fukuoka and the other major urban areas in Japan are taking the lead in installing hydrogen filling stations ahead of next year’s FCV rollout. Iwatani is also working on a fixed commercial-use hydrogen filling station in Kitakyushu, which will become the Prefecture’s first hydrogen filling station. Source: Nishinippon Shimbun
