Citizen Groups Try to Block Casino in Sasebo

Two local citizen groups submitted a proposal to Sasebo City on July 19 in an attempt to prevent the development of a casino in Huis Ten Bosch. The city has been exploring the possibility of introducing a gambling complex, along with the help of Nagasaki Prefecture. The possibility of setting up a new casino complex is being pushed by the city, stressing that numerous publicly-operated gambling facilities such as keirin (bicycle racing), keiba (horse racing), and pachinko parlors are already in existence. However, locals have expressed concern about the dangers of gambling addiction and the lack of regulation in the industry. Source: Shinbun Akahata, 7/20/2018
