City Moving Forward with Castle Reconstruction

On Nov. 26, Fukuoka City convened a committee to review a renovation plan for Fukuoka Castle, a national historic site. The committee presented detailed revisions to plan, which is set to go into effect next year. In addition to renovations, it calls for excavations, foliage trimming and improvements to walking paths to be conducted over the next 15 years to the tune of more than ¥6.7 billion. The revised plan proposes renovating the Shiomi Yagura turret and starting renovation work on the Bugu Yagura (weapons tower) by 2018. Other castle elements, including the Honmaru Omote-Gomon Gate, are slated to be rebuilt by 2028, and excavation work will be conducted concurrently so that confirmed structures can be reconstructed accurately. City Hall will open the revised renovation plan to public comment in January and aims to finalize it before the end of the fiscal year. Source: Nishinippon Shimbun 11/28
