City to Provide Extra Taxi Tickets to the Disabled

Fukuoka City, which subsidizes initial taxi fares for the severely physically disabled, will start providing additional ¥20 coupons in June to cover the increase in taxi fares. Under the current system, the City provides four ¥550 tickets a month to approximately 6,200 severely physically disabled residents to cover their initial taxi fares; however, it did not respond in time to the increase in fares on the back of the 3% consumption tax hike in April. The City decided to issue the additional coupons to cover the rate hike after receiving complaints from the ticket users. Source: Nishinippon Shimbun 6/5
