Do you have any old mobile phones or small electronic devices lying around? Old electronics are an important source gold, silver and rare earth metals that can be reused. Fukuoka has offered electronics recycling since June 2010 in partnership with a Kitakyushu-based recycler. Around 22,000 devices were collected in 2011, yielding 146 g of gold, 590 g of silver, 109 kg of bronze and 29 g of palladium. Since many people move in March, the City reminds residents to drop their old electronics off at one of its green collection boxes around the city. For a detailed list of locations and accepted devices, check the link below (Japanese only).
