Clinic Ordered to Halt Regenerative Treatments

Japan’s health ministry issued an emergency order to suspend regenerative treatments at Trinity Clinic Fukuoka after at least five patients reported health problems. The cases occurred in 2023, when patients underwent procedures using cultured stem cells derived from their own fat to treat pain. Several developed symptoms including fever, and one required hospitalization. Authorities said the clinic failed to report the incidents or investigate their cause and continued providing the treatments. The ministry determined an immediate halt was necessary to prevent further harm. The move follows a recent fatal case linked to similar treatment in Tokyo, prompting wider scrutiny and requests to suspend comparable procedures until safety can be confirmed.
