Collaboration Between JR Kyushu and Alibaba Announced

JR Kyushu and Chinese e-commerce brand Alibaba have announced plans to work together to increase the number of Chinese tourists visiting Kyushu. The Alibaba travel site will promote sightseeing spots and food around the region, while JR Kyushu is planning to create a special sightseeing train. Approximately 1.85 million Chinese tourists visited Kyushu in 2017. However, nearly 90% of those were cruise ship passengers visiting temporarily. JR Kyushu hopes to see the collaboration dramatically increase the number of Chinese visitors travelling into the area using other forms of transportation. Source: Mainichi Shimbun, 7/24/2018
