Condo Sales Up Across Kyushu

According to a survey by Jutaku Ryutsu Shimposha, a Fukuoka-based real estate research company, condominium sales in the seven prefectures of Kyushu increased 6.2% year-on-year for the first half (April ~ September) of fiscal 2013. The company sees a perceived economic recovery and increased demand ahead of next year’s consumption tax increase as the primary drivers for the upward trend. The number of units available for sale increased 15.6% to 7,501, and there was a 23.9% uptick in units that went on sale between April and September. A company official commented, “Demand is not as robust as supply , so we are starting to see signs of a surplus.” The company with the most condo sales for the period was JR Kyushu (Fukuoka; 475 units), followed by Anabuki Kosan Kyushu (Fukuoka; 321 units) and Daiichi Kotsu Sangyo (Kitakyushu; 238 units). Only one company in the top 10 was based outside of Fukuoka Prefecture. Regarding the second half of the fiscal year, the same official remarked, “The recovery is expected to continue, but the number of people rushing to buy will likely fall, leading to lower condo sales than the first half.” Source: Nishinippon Shimbun 11/5
