Moji Customs, responsible for monitoring imports in Yamaguchi, Oita, and Miyazaki Prefectures, and part of Fukuoka, Saga, and Nagasaki prefectures said there were 2,089 incidents in which they intercepted 29,190 counterfeit items being shipped into the country in 2010. The number of incidents is a 14.7% rise over the previous year, and is the third consecutive year for a record high number of confiscations. China was the origin of 1,982 of these incidents, accounting for 94.9% of the total. Accounting for most of the rest was South Korea, with 58 incidents. The total from China rose 16.4% from the previous year, while that from South Korea fell 38.3%.
