Controversy Over High-risk Infectious Virus Research Facility In Nagasaki

A BSL4 (biosafety level 4) facility for Nagasaki Prefecture will open on Jul. 30. The eleven-year project has aimed to make it one of the leading centers of infectious-disease research in Japan while causing some controversy over safety. The five-story laboratory is equipped with required standards for handling the highest-level contaminants, such as the Ebola virus, Marburg virus, and smallpox virus. Source: Nikkei
