Crowdfunding Project to Save Yatai in Fukuoka City

A crowdfunding project to save local yatai (outdoor food stalls) from the negative economic impact caused by the spread of the new coronavirus has begun in Fukuoka City. A 36-year-old yatai owner, who only started his business eight months ago, took the initiative to protect this local tradition. The ‘Save The Yatai’ project hopes to amass ¥5 million by May 29. Contributors (¥1,000~) will receive different rewards, including drink-and-food tickets, special hand towels, and rights to hang chochin (paper) lanterns with text messages on the yatai.
