Cyclist Arrested After Refusing Breath Test

Fukuoka police arrested a 27-year-old man early on May 26 after he allegedly refused an alcohol breath test while riding a bicycle under the influence. Officers on patrol in Jonan Ward stopped the man after seeing him ignore a red traffic signal shortly after 3 a.m. Police said they detected the smell of alcohol and a preliminary screening indicated drinking. The man reportedly refused an official breath test for about 30 minutes while questioning the legal consequences. After his arrest, a later test found alcohol levels exceeding three times the legal standard. The suspect admitted drinking shochu mixed with soda but declined to explain why he refused the test, according to investigators. Source: KBC News / TNC News
