Dazaifu Tenmangu Shrine will undergo a major renovation in 2023, and the shrine’s main hall will be under construction from next spring. On November 22, a completed drawing of the temporary hall set up for worshippers during this period was unveiled to the public. The main hall of Dazaifu Tenmangu Shrine, a nationally important cultural property, will undergo a 3-year renovation starting next May to mark the 1,125th anniversary of the death of Sugawara no Michizane. This will be the first major renovation in 124 years. To revive the beautiful appearance of the main hall for the future, all the cypress bark will be re-thatched and lacquered, and disaster prevention work will also be carried out during the “2025 Great Repair”. During this period, a temporary hall will be built before the renovated main hall. Construction is scheduled to begin next February and be completed in mid-May. Source: KBC / Dazaifu Tenmangu Shrine
