The Nagasaki Prefecture general assembly has formed a committee to discuss the site for new government offices, which has become an issue in the prefecture. While it was expected the government would build the new offices in a different location in Nagasaki City, merchants in the city’s business district are opposed because they stand to lose business if that happens. Some also think that the new offices should be located in a more centralized area of the prefecture, such as Isahaya. The committee’s deliberations might result in a change in prefectural policy.
