Disciplinary Actions at JGSDF Kurume Garrison Following Fatal Accident and Theft

In 2021, a Japan Ground Self-Defense Force (JGSDF) member was fatally hit by a large vehicle in an Oita Prefecture training area. The driver, a 31-year-old Sergeant, received a 6-day suspension. His 46-year-old Lieutenant supervisor was demoted for inadequate supervision, with a two-month salary cut. Regimental Commander Lieutenant Colonel Masanori Fukushima emphasized reinforced safety management and training. Additionally, a 30-year-old Sergeant was dismissed for stealing over 650,000 yen from a colleague’s bank account between June and July 2021.
