Eco Mileage Scheme Begins in October

This October, the seven prefectures of Kyushu will begin offering Kyushu Eco Life Points for activities such as planting trees and saving energy at home. Participants can exchange points for gift certificates that can be used at Michi-no-Eki rest areas, convenience stores and supermarkets. The aim of the new system is to reduce CO2 emissions and mitigate global warming throughout Kyushu, and it will last until next February. The system will be administered by the Kyushu Carbon Mileage System Promotion Council, which comprises members from the seven prefectural governments, the Kyushu Economic Research Center (KERC) and local companies. The total cost of the project is estimated at ¥70~80 million and will be split by the prefectures and the corporate members. The Council aims to recruit 5,000 households for the scheme, and households interested in participating can contact KERC to apply. Source: Nishinippon Shimbun, 9/3
