Private education lecturer Akira Aramaki, 41, announced his candidacy for the Nov. 15 Fukuoka mayoral election. The Yanagawa native graduated from Saga University and worked in advertising and medical services before entering education. He is campaigning to make Fukuoka a global center for education and to create new forms of learning and employment suited to the AI era. Aramaki, who identifies as transgender, also called for a society where people can pursue opportunities regardless of their background.
