The Kyushu Tourism Promotion Organization (KTPO) signed a bilateral agreement with the Thai government. The KTPO will work with the Tourism Authority of Thailand to encourage exchange between the two sides. Deputy Prime Minister of Thailand Somkid Jatusripitak attended an event in which the two sides agreed to promote tourism and signed a letter of intent that outlined the main points of the arrangement. Although the total number of tourists visiting Kyushu has increased recently, the number of direct flights connecting the region with Thailand has declined. This has had an adverse effect on the number of Thai visitors to Kyushu. Deputy PM Jatusripitak expressed his desire for the Tourism Authority of Thailand to reopen an office in Fukuoka this August to help reverse this trend. Source: Nikkei Shimbun, 2/8/2018
