July will be the first month in which the law mandating that utilities purchase electricity generated by renewable sources at higher rates goes into effect. The Ministry of Economy, Trade, and Industry reveals that this surcharge will be 111 yen a month for households and companies (households whose bill is now 7,000 yen a month). That is the highest surcharge among the nine blocs nationwide. The lowest is for Hokkaido, which will be 75 yen a month.
