Emergency Controls For Alien Hornets

The Japanese government has decided to begin extermination work on an invasive alien species of hornets that has been confirmed in Fukuoka City and other areas. The Ministry of the Environment and others surveyed Higashi Ward, Fukuoka City, and the towns of Hisayama and Sasaguri in the middle of last month in response to the first detection of the suzumebachi in Fukuoka City and other areas since May of this year. About 30 worker wasps were confirmed, and in Higashi Ward, Fukuoka City, Kyushu University found a nest of about 30 to 40 cm in length. The Ministry of the Environment has been working with the area’s beekeepers to identify the bees. In addition to exterminating the nests, over 100 traps will be set up using a wasp extermination chemical. Source: KBC / Fukuoka Prefecture
