Shonai Kanko of Iizuka, Fukuoka Prefecture, will launch an emergency taxi service for registered users in May. When an emergency occurs, the user would simply press the emergency button on a special pre-installed device, which will signal the company to dispatch the nearest taxicab immediately. Users will register in advance and provide their names, addresses, telephone numbers, and any hospitals they may be using. Japan’s Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, and Transport says this it may be the first service of its kind in the country.
