More than a week has passed since the first COVID-19 infection was confirmed on the Costa Atlantica, a cruise ship docked in Nagasaki Port without a scheduled departure date. Two other Italian cruise ships (Costa Neoromantica and Costa Serena) left Nagasaki Port on Apr. 26 without experiencing onboard infections. Because some essential crew has tested positive for the virus, the Costa Atlantica can not sail. Meanwhile, the cruise ship operating company is working with embassies and consulates to send back more than 400 crew members who have tested negative. On Apr. 27, Nagasaki Prefecture disclosed the demography of the ship’s crew members, which include 206 Filipinos, 102 Indians, 86 Indonesians and 2 Japanese. Also, amongst the 148 confirmed cases onboard, 95% are in an age group with lower risks of developing severe symptoms (10~49.) Additionally, on the same day, two more patients developed severe symptoms and were transferred to a local hospital. Sources: Mainichi / NHK
