Ex-Postal Officials Referred in Fraud Case

Police in Fukuoka referred two former postal employees to prosecutors on April 1 for allegedly assisting a fraud scheme involving bulk purchases of Letter Packs. The suspects, a former post office manager and assistant manager, are accused of allowing the purchase of 1,162 prepaid envelopes using stolen credit card information in February 2025. Authorities believe the items, worth nearly ¥500,000, were part of a wider operation in which a fraud group acquired more than ¥100 million in goods and converted them into cash through resale. Investigators said the suspects noticed irregular payment patterns but failed to act. The proceeds were allegedly used for entertainment spending in Fukuoka’s Nakasu district.
