Ex-Suntory Chair Denies Intent In THC Supplement Probe

Takeshi Niinami, former chairman of Suntory Holdings, told police he was unaware that a supplement he received contained THC, a cannabis-derived substance banned in Japan. The product had been sent from a U.S. acquaintance and was flagged during a narcotics investigation.

No illegal items were found in his home, and he tested negative for banned substances. Authorities are investigating the circumstances surrounding the package, which was linked to a separate smuggling case in Fukuoka. Niinami stepped down on September 1 following disclosure of the investigation. Source: NHK
