Due to sluggish rider totals, Fukuoka City said it is seriously considering building an extension of the Nanakuma Municipal Subway line from the Tenjin Minami Station through Canal City to the JR Hakata Station. The city estimates construction costs at roughly 45 billion yen. The costs for the extension on this route are cheaper than for other potential routes. This route also has the advantage of connecting to the JR station after the Kyushu Shinkansen route opens.
