Fifth Consecutive Week of Decline for Fukuoka – One New COVID-19 Infection Yesterday

On May 12, the national government began to consider cutting Fukuoka and three other prefectures from the group of “special alert prefectures.” The number of weekly cases of COVID-19 infections in Fukuoka Prefecture decreased for the fifth straight week since the state of emergency was announced on April 7. The count per week is as follows; 197 (4/7 ~ 4/13), 148 (4/14 ~ 4/20), 100 (4/21 ~ 4/27), 27 (4/28 ~ 5/4) and 6 cases between 5/6 ~ 5/11. During the past week, six other prefectures in Kyushu and Okinawa failed to record any new cases of COVID-19 infection. Only Kumamoto Prefecture found one new case during the same period. On May 12, Fukuoka Prefecture announced one new confirmed case of the new coronavirus infection. The man, a resident of Kama City, reportedly developed symptoms on May 1 and worked at his barbershop until May 10. The transmission route of the case is unknown.
