Fire Ants Found at Island City

Authorities in Fukuoka confirmed the discovery of approximately 300 red imported fire ants at Island City in the city’s Higashi Ward. The ants were initially detected on June 5 during a Ministry of the Environment survey near a container yard fence. Experts later identified the insects as fire ants, an invasive species known for aggressive behavior and stings that can trigger severe allergic reactions. Insecticidal bait has been placed around the site, and officials reported no health impacts as of June 10. The survey was conducted as part of ongoing monitoring efforts following a previous fire ant detection at Island City three years ago. Authorities are urging residents not to touch suspected fire ants and to report sightings through designated consultation services. Source: KBC News / Fukuoka Prefecture
