First Banana Harvest in Omuta City

A company in Omuta City began growing bananas in May of last year and finished its first harvest this week. The company has outsourced some of its operations to a group company that provides employment support to people with disabilities. High school students from the city volunteered to participate in the first harvest. About 200 banana plants were planted in three greenhouses covering 960 square meters. Each plant is expected to yield about 180 bananas. Source: NHK
