Kyushu Electric Power released its sales results for FY 2008, which showed the amount of power the company sold fell 2.5% from the previous year to 85.883 billion kW. It was the first decline in their power sales in 22 years, dating back to the 1.8% decline of 1986 resulting from the appreciation of the yen, and the largest decline in the utility’s history. This fall in sales was attributed to the sharp production cutbacks in the regional auto and semiconductor industries, as well as the cool summer and warm winter weather.
