First Foreign Tourist Couple Legally Weds in Fukuoka
On Aug. 5, a couple visiting from Hong Kong was married at the Sawara Ward Office, marking the first such legal wedding by a foreign tourists in the city. Foreign tourists can get married in Japan, but not many do so outside of major tourist destinations such as Okinawa and Hokkaido. Fukuoka invited the first couple to the city where they held a ceremony on Nokonoshima Island before filing their paperwork at the Ward Office. “If more tourists bring their families to Fukuoka for their weddings, we can expect a significant economic impact,” remarked an official at City Hall.
