Flat Rate Taxi Service in Fukuoka for Elderly

JTB Kyushu has announced plans to begin a trial in Fukuoka City next month of a flat rate taxi service for the elderly. Targeting senior citizens aged 70 and over, many of whom tend to give up their driver’s licenses, the aim of this initiative is to reduce traffic accidents involving the elderly while responding to their transportation needs. The trial will be conducted with 50 persons in Higashi, Hakata and Chuo Wards and will run until the end of February. The flat rate service will cost between ¥28,000 to ¥64,000 per month depending on the distance between registered destinations. Depending on the outcomes of this trial, JTB will strive to expand the service to all 20 of Japan’s designated cities starting in April. Source: Sankei Shimbun, 12/23
