The Fukuoka Research Center for Recycling Systems, Kitakyushu-based Toto Ltd., and paper company Kyushu Seishi have jointly developed an inhibitor for the foam created when sludge from the ceramics manufacturing process is reused to remove impurities from steel at steel mills. The prefecture’s research center began developing the inhibitor last year. An advantage of the new product is that it works quickly, which reduces the amount of time required for its use in steel mills. Kyushu Seishi will begin sales of the product this summer.
