Foreigners Entering Japan Via Kyushu Drops For First Time in Eight Years

The Kyushu District Transport Bureau issued a report on the number of foreigners who entered Japan through Kyushu in 2019. According to that, a total of 4.2 million people arrived by airplane and aboard cruise ships, dropping for the first time in eight years by 17.5% compared to the year before. With a significant decline in the number of people arriving at ports (-25%,) the figure reflects the difficult diplomatic situations between Japan and South Korea. Meanwhile, the region saw an increased number of foreigners from ASEAN countries (+52.2%) and Europe, USA, and Australia (+22.0%) thanks to the openings of new flight routes as well as Rugby World Cup.
