Former Kaishima Residence Reopened as Tea House

The former residence of the Kaijima Family in Minami Ward, Fukuoka City, was renovated into an urban park. Takamiya Garden opened on Apr. 1 after converting and renovating the historical houses into a restaurant, tea room, wedding, music halls, etc. The spacious restaurant, Takamiya Teien Saryo, represents traditional shoin-zukuri architecture style and can accommodate up to 48 guests with ‘Kyushu Satoyama Cuisine’ (a combination of local ingredients and Japanese and French cooking methods.) Full course lunches and dinners are offered for ¥3,800 ~ ¥14,800, and a tea-and-sweet set for ¥1,200. Kaijima Residence was originally built in Nogata City and was moved to its current location in 1927. The classic residence also served as the residence of managers of the Fukuoka American Center from the 1960s until the1980s.
