According to the police, at around 7:00 a.m. on the 12th, a man was found dead in Chikushino City, and was identified as Mr. Makoto Yamada (70), the former president of the operating company for “Daimaru Besso.” A note with contents resembling a suicide note was found in his car, which was parked on a nearby street, and based on the condition of the body and the scene, it is believed to be a suicide.

“Daimaru Besso” was subject to improvement guidance from Fukuoka Prefecture after problems such as the fact that the bathwater was only replaced twice a year became known, and the prefecture filed a criminal complaint against the former president, who had resigned after giving a false explanation. On the 10th, the police searched the inn and other places on suspicion of violating the Public Bathhouse Act, and also heard the former president’s voluntary statement.

The Fukuoka Prefectural Police Headquarters, Life and Economy Division’s Deputy Chief Eiji Kodama commented, “It is very unfortunate that he has passed away, and we are saddened by it. We believe there were no issues with the police response. We will continue to investigate going forward.” Source: NHK
