A 25-year-old former nursery teacher at Matsubara Nursery School in Tagawa City, Fukuoka Prefecture, was arrested on suspicion of assault and causing injury to children in her care. Police allege that between July and August she struck the faces of children in a class of five-year-olds, injuring at least one, and pulled their hair on multiple occasions. The case emerged after a child’s father consulted police, and security camera footage inside the facility reportedly showed the suspect assaulting children. The former teacher, now unemployed, has admitted the allegations and had already been dismissed from the nursery for misconduct. The operator of the nursery had previously received an improvement order from prefectural and city authorities after inappropriate behaviour, including abuse, was identified among a total of ten staff members. Police are continuing to investigate other possible offences. Source: TNC
