From Sep. 1, Kitakyushu City began renting out hybrid cars to the public on weekends for free! The rental system is part of an Kitakyushu City’s aim to become a more environmentally aware city. To be eligible to rent the hybrid or electric cars, drivers must be a resident of Kitakyushu City, must have had their driver’s license in Japan for over one year and must register in advance. There are 5 cars in total, that are lent out to the public between 9:00~17:00 on weekend days. So far, around 90 people are registered as members. The reception, located in Riverwalk Kitakyushu, was crowded with users over the opening days. The service will be offered until Jan. 2013. Source: http://rkb.jp/news/news/9189/
