Fukuoka City has launched a “Yatai Concierge” service at Fukuoka Airport’s international terminal to introduce the charm of its traditional food stalls, known as yatai, to foreign tourists. This initiative, which began on June 27, addresses the lack of information available to tourists about yatai. Fukuoka is home to 101 yatai, concentrated in Tenjin, Nakasu, and Nagahama. A city survey revealed that about 80% of travelers have a positive image of yatai, but often lack detailed information.
Yatai concierges stationed at the airport’s tourist information center provide essential details such as operating hours and locations and share tips on enjoying yatai culture, including popular dishes like yaki ramen. The concierges have been trained extensively, including on-site visits to yatai. Tourists from various countries, including Hong Kong and the UK, appreciate the service, noting that the latest local information enhances their visit beyond what they find on social media. Yatai Concierges at Fukuoka Airport highlighted the service’s value in helping visitors enjoy conversations and the local atmosphere at yatai and emphasized their commitment to providing safe and delicious food experiences. This initiative aims to leverage Fukuoka City’s unique yatai culture as a significant tourist attraction. Source: Yokanavi / TNC
